"Beloved meditation teacher Anna Wise passed on to her next life in March 2010... Anna's lineage was highly eclectic but the path she followed was a hybrid east-west approach that married the timelessness of contemplation with the precision of technology. The result was what became known as the Awakened Mind Program. After forty years of research and teaching experience she had refined it to an art and a science.

"Her unique combination of brainwave real-time biofeedback combined with guided meditation has been taught to thousands of students in the United States, Europe and Asia. Her primary teaching venue was Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California. Anyone who has had the privilege of a workshop or private sessions with Anna knows the effectiveness of the Awakened Mind approach. She was one of the only teachers respected enough by Esalen to be invited back again and again, completing 60+ workshops over 20 years.

"Anna shared her discoveries and theories in her two books - The High Performance Mind and Awakening the Mind. She also created highly original audio techniques for utilizing binaural beats combined with custom musical scores and guided imagery that could effectively facilitate learner state transformations through repeated use. She created two sets of audio recordings. Sound Body, Sound Mind with Andrew Weil, and The High Performance Mind. The High Performance Mind is the only comprehensive set of audio recordings that captures the entire Wise Protocol." [1]

"Anna Wise was the world's leading authority on The Awakened Mind™ and EEG. She was author of 'Awakening the Mind: A Guide to Mastering the Power of Your Brainwaves' (Tarcher Putnam 2002) and 'The High Performance Mind - Mastering Brainwaves for Insight, Healing, and Creativity' (Tarcher Putnam 1995, 2nd. edition 2004). Anna was a Founding Board Member of the European Association for Humanistic Psychology based in Geneva, Switzerland. She was also an internationally recognized workshop leader in Europe, and a Director of The Natural Dance Workshop in London from 1975-1981, with James MacRitchie. In 1981 Anna returned to Boulder, Colorado, with Jim, where they were Co-Directors of The Evolving Institute.

"Anna was a contributing author of The Art of Survival - A Guide to Yoga Therapy (Unwin Hyman Ltd. 1987) with her chapter "Biofeedback Meditation and the Awakened Mind," where she first published her groundbreaking new material which included identifying alpha brainwaves as the bridge between the conscious and the subconscious mind. She also recognized that it is the interrelationship of the peak frequencies of beta, alpha, theta, and delta that distinguishes the awakened mind. By understanding and working with the importance of the relationship between the state and the content of consciousness, she developed her protocol for brainwave training that forms the basis of her work. In 1981, she began her Awakened Mind™ program in the United States. In 1988 she founded The Anna Wise Center, moved to San Francisco and finally settling in Marin County. In 2007, she relocated to Berkeley, CA." [1]
