{{#badges: CoalSwarm|Navbar-Australiacoal}}BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA), which is a 50-50 joint venture between BHP and Mitsubishi Corporation of Japan, formerly known as BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance. BMA accounts for more than one-quarter of Australia's annual coal exports.[1] BMA is Australia’s largest coal producer and supplier of seaborne metallurgical coal.[2]

BMA also manages two coal mines -- the South Walker Creek mine and the Poitrel mine -- for BHP Mitsui Coal.[3]

In September 2008 BMA bought 100% of the Saraji East project from New Hope Corporation. The project is an undeveloped metallurgical coal project located near Dysart in the Bowen Basin in Queensland.
