Dr. David S.C. Chu is the U.S. undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness in the U.S. Department of Defense.
In January 2005, Chu drew a sharp rebuke from the head of the American Legion after he stated that the cost of paying benefits to veterans was "taking away from the nation's ability to defend itself."
He is a trustee of the China Institute in America.
