Dr. Eliya M. Zulu is the Deputy Director and Director of Research at Africa Population and Health Research Center . "He is a demographer with a PhD in Demography from the University of Pennsylvania, USA (1996), and Masters Degree in Population and development from Australian National University (1991). Eliya joined APHRC in 1997, and has worked at the Demographic Unit, University of Malawi, as a Lecturer in Demography prior to his doctoral studies. His research centers on linkages between migration, urban poverty and health outcomes, sexual and reproductive health (particularly among adolescents), and bridging the gap between research, policy and action. He has wide experience in research among the urban poor and has published extensively on population and health issues, including sexual networking and maternal health in sub-Saharan Africa. He is currently managing APHRC's regional urban health and poverty programme being implemented in Ghana, Kenya, and Malawi, including the longitudinal health and demographic surveillance system in two slum settlements in Nairobi and the partnership to improve child survival among slum residents in the city."
