Global Rights "is a human rights advocacy group that partners with local activists to challenge injustice and amplify new voices within the global discourse. With offices in countries around the world, we help local activists create just societies through proven strategies for effecting change." [1]

In December 2003 they changed their name so that after 25 years as the International Human Rights Law Group, they would be thereafter known as Global Rights: Partners for Justice. [2]

In March 15, 2006 it was announded that Salih Booker would replace Gay McDougall as the new Executive Director for Global Rights. [3] The current Executive Director is Mary E. McClymont.

NED Projects

In 2004, they received a grant from the NED for their work in the Democratic Republic of Congo "To strengthen the capacities of human rights groups in eastern Congo. Global Rights will provide institutional assistance, training and technical support. As a supplement to training activities, Global Rights will make ten small grants to local groups and organize consultations with NED partner organizations throughout the Congo."

Then in 2005, they received a grant from the NED for their work in Liberia "To strengthen civil society's participation in human rights and legislative advocacy and to help civil society organizations improve government transparency and accountability. Global Rights will provide capacity building assistance to human rights networks in Liberia, and convene an advocacy skills building seminar for Liberian human rights organizations and other civil society groups."

They also received NED grants for their work in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2001, 2002, 2003. One of their 1996 was channeled to the Promotion and Support for Women's Initiatives; they also channeled funding to Haki za Binadamu-Maniema. [4]

They received NED grants fro their work in Cambodia in 1995, 1996, and 1997.
