"Dr. MacKenzie is Professor in the Division of International Health and holder of the Premier's Fellowship at Curtin University of Technology, Perth, Western Australia, from May 2004. He was a Co-Recipient of The Medical Journal of Australia/Wyeth Research Award for the best original research paper published in The Medical Journal of Australia ( 1996 ) , a co-recipient of the James H Nakano Citation of the National Center for Infectious Diseases of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for an outstanding scientific paper published in 1999, awarded the Excellence in Virology Award by the Asian-Pacific Society for Medical Virology (2000), and awarded Officer in the Order of Australia (2002) for services to public health research and to education . A member of various international committees including the Scientific Advisory Committee for Global Health Security and the Steering Committee for the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network of the World Health Organization, Member, Advisory Board, Centre for Emerging Infectious Diseases, Chinese University of Hong Kong . Professor Mackenzie was recently seconded to the World Health Organization in Geneva to work on SARS programs."
