L. Oakley Johnson
Oakley Johnson "is Senior Vice President for Corporate Affairs at American International Group, Inc. (AIG). Mr. Johnson is responsible for the development and implementation of AIG’s public policy positions on domestic and international issues. He also coordinates the company’s lobbying activities in Washington and abroad, and oversees the corporate public affairs and political action programs. AIG is one of the nation’s largest diversified financial service organizations with over $800 billion in assets and over 95,000 employees worldwide. It is the largest U.S. – based international insurance organization – now operating in over 130 countries and jurisdictions. Its businesses include property and casualty, life, marine, aviation insurance and reinsurance, as well as a broad range of retirement products and financial services activities, including commodity trading, aircraft leasing, consumer finance, and infrastructure financing.
"Prior to joining AIG in 1985, Mr. Johnson directed the International Programs Department for the world’s largest private business federation – the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. While specializing in Asia/Pacific affairs, he helped build the Chamber’s international division into the largest such private sector operation in the country.
"A native of New Jersey, Mr. Johnson received his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Denver and his M.A. from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. He is a member of the International Economic Policy Advisory Committee to the U.S. State Department. Mr. Johnson is also a member of the Asia Society, the ASEAN-U.S. Business Council, and the Council on Foreign Relations. He serves on the boards of Transparency International USA, the Executive Council on Diplomacy, the Committee for Economic Development, and is Vice President of the Japan-America Society of Washington.
He is also a director of CIPE.
