Lord Yehudi Menuhin
"Born in New York, he made his violin debut at the age of seven with the San Francisco Orchestra. Highly regarded as one of the foremost musicians of his generation, Yehudi Menuhin had the unique distinction of having toured almost every country in the world! He was also equally recognised for his committed humanism. In 1963 he achieved one of his greatest ambitions: founding a boarding-school in Surrey for promising young musicians. He was knighted in 1965, awarded the Order of Merit in 1987 and made a Life Peer in 1993. He died in 1999."
