Louis Boorstin "is a Deputy Director in the Global Development Program of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Mr. Boorstin leads the foundationÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s initiative to improve water, sanitation and hygiene in the developing world, which has committed more than $165 million through 18 grants to date.
"Prior to joining the foundation in 2005, Mr. Boorstin spent 15 years at International Finance Corporation, where he held a number of positions, including Manager of IFCÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s Environmental Finance Group. Under Mr. BoorstinÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s leadership, this group grew funds under management from $20 million to over $250 million, investing in projects ranging from solar power, to clean water, to eco-tourism. Mr. Boorstin also launched IFCÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s entry into the carbon finance field. Mr. Boorstin previously worked in IFCÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s Asia Department, financing industrial projects such as cement, wood products, and shipping.
"Before joining IFC, Mr. Boorstin was an investment banker in a Wall Street firm for five years. He holds a B.A. in Economics from Yale University and an M.B.A. and M.A. (Development Economics) from Stanford University. "
