Michael Spagat "completed his PhD at Harvard [1988] and has previously taught at University of Illinois and Brown University. He is a current Leverhulme fellow." [1]

His CV notes that he wrote [1] a paper that was "one of the most widely cited critiques of the recent study of Iraq mortality published in the Lancet claiming roughly 600,000 excess conflict-related deaths."
