QCoal describes itself as a "privately owned company focused on coal exploration and mining."
In its April 2010 listing of major mineral development project, the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics lists QCoal's projects under consideration as being the:
- Byerwen Coal Project is a project proposed by QCoal / JFE Steel Corporation. The project is located 100 km south of Collinsville. A feasibility study on the project is currently being undertaken, The notional commissioning date of the project is 2012. The project would produce 10 million tonnes of coal a year; and
- Drake Coal Project which is located 17 km south of Collinsville. An Environmental Impact Statement is currently being prepared for the project. The project, which has a commissioning date of 2012, is projected to produce 6 million tonnes of coal per annum.
