Sam Marullo, Ph.D., "is Professor and Chair of the Department of Sociology at Georgetown University. He is also a Senior Fellow at the Center for Social Justice at Georgetown University.

"Many of Marullo’s courses employ a pedagogy of community-based learning, through which students integrate their work with and for community-based organizations in D.C. with their course work in order to better understand class materials and to help the organizations better achieve their goals of advancing social justice. These courses include: Theater as Social Change, The Contemporary City, Project D.C., Methods of Social Research, Social Statistics, and Social Movements. He is one of the core faculty members teaching in the Department's Social Justice Analysis concentration.

"Marullo served as Director and President of the Board of Directors of the Washington D.C. Community Research and Learning (CoRAL) Network from 2000-2006 and helped to create the network with the support of grants from the Bonner Foundation, the Corporation for National and Community Service, and the Meyer Foundation. Previously he served as the Director of the Volunteer and Public Service Center at Georgetown University from 1997-2000. He was a co-principle investigator on Georgetown's Community Outreach Partnership Center grant, 1999-2002. He was principle investigator on a Bonner Foundation grant to promote community-based research, first at Georgetown and then in the District of Columbia, which led to the creation of the CoRAL Network. He was also a founding member of the University's Partners in Urban Research and Service-learning initiative, which was a community-university seminar whose purpose was to initiate research projects developed to meet community priorities. He is a member of the Campus Compact’s Consulting Corps, organized to provide university consultations to promote civic engagement, service-learning, and community-based research.
