Southern Waste Strategy Authority
The Southern Waste Strategy Authority (SWSA) was created in 2001 by twelve southern Tasmanian local councils to facilitate better waste management for southern Tasmanians.
The authority has a close relationship with the Beverage Industry Environment Council. BIEC provides funding for an anti-litter television campaign with the slogan Don't Waste Tasmania. BIEC also funds a public place recycling program and a major events recycling program. BIEC-designed signage appears on a large proportion of rubbish and recycling bins across Tasmania.
The authority is opposed to a waste levies, container deposit legislation and plastic bag levies.
Industry funding from 2004/05:
- $43,115 from Beverage Industry Environment Council
- $10,000 from Norske Skog
- $8,000 from Collex
- $6,000 from Visy Recycling
